Οι Tad Morose της δεκαετίας του ενενήντα αποτελούν μία από τις (πολύ) αγαπημένες μου μπάντες. Τρεις δίσκοι (συν ένα ep), ο ένας καλύτερος από τον άλλο με αποκορύφωμα το (εξωπραγματικά καλό) "A Mended Rhyme" του 1997. Κάπου εκεί η στόχευση αρχίζει και αλλάζει.
Οι Tad Morose αντικαθιστούν τον πληκτρά (και άνθρωπο - ορχήστρα) Fredrik Eriksson με δεύτερο κιθαρίστα (Daniel Olsson) και μετατρέπονται σε μία "καθαρόαιμη" power metal μπάντα. Κάπου εκεί αρχίζουν και "με χάνουν" θεωρώντας ότι έριξαν νερό στο κρασί τους και απεμπόλησαν (κάποια από) τα στοιχεία που τους έκαναν να ξεχωρίζουν.
Κάπως έτσι δεν ασχολήθηκα με τον δίσκο "Undead" όταν κυκλοφόρησε (το έκανα μεταγενέστερα). Με κάποιον τρόπο έπεσε στα χέρια μου το αμέσως επόμενο album των Tad Morose "Matters of the Dark" (Ιανουάριος 2002). Με το που "σκάει" το εναρκτήριο τραγούδι ("Sword of Retribution") έχω ήδη αναθεωρήσει!
Όχι δεν είναι επιπέδου "A Mended Rhyme", αλλά η μαγεία είναι ακόμη εκεί και ο δίσκος τα "σπάει". Τελικά η σχέση μου με το Σουηδικό συγκρότημα διακόπηκε (αν κι όχι οριστικά, καθώς τους παρακολουθώ εξ αποστάσεως) το 2005 όταν αποχώρησε η φωνάρα Urban Breed! Χωρίς πολλά φρου - φρου κι αρώματα το "Matters Of The Dark" αποτελεί μία από τις καλύτερες power metal προτάσεις της πρώτης δεκαετίας της παρούσας χιλιετίας.
Ακούμε τον Urban Breed (φωνητικά), τον Christer Andersson (κιθάρα), Daniel Olsson (κιθάρα, πλήκτρα), Anders Modd (μπάσο), Peter Morén (τύμπανα), ενώ σε δύο τραγούδια ("Matters of the Dark", "Reason of the Ghost") συμμετέχει και η φωνή των Morgana Lefay, Charles "Chulle" Rytkönen. Ο δίσκος κυκλοφόρησε για πρώτη φορά σε ψηφιακή μορφή τον προηγούμενο μήνα (8 Φεβρουαρίου 2024) μέσω της Century Media Records...
