1977. Οι Rainbow στην καλύτερη φάση της καριέρας τους. Έχουν κυκλοφορήσει τους δύο "μυθικούς" πρώτους δίσκους τους ("Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow" 1975, "Rising" 1976) συν το εξαιρετικό live album "On Stage" το καλοκαίρι του 1977.

Το τραγούδι "Kill the King" το γνωρίσαμε στον "ζωντανά" ηχογραφημένο δίσκο "On Stage" (το εναρκτήριο κομμάτι), ενώ η στουντιακή του μορφή θα "έβγαινε" τον επόμενο χρόνο (βλ. τον δίσκο "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" - Απρίλιος 1978 - το πρώτο τραγούδι της δεύτερης πλευράς του βινυλίου).

Μουσική - στίχοι: Ritchie Blackmore, Ronnie James Dio, Cozy Powell. Πρόκειται για ένα από τα πλέον γρήγορα τραγούδια των Rainbow, οι στίχοι του οποίου (σύμφωνα με τον Dio) αναφέρονται σε μία παρτίδα σκάκι. Με αυτό το μουσικό κομμάτι ξεκινούσαν οι Rainbow τις συναυλίες τους από το 1976 μέχρι και το 1979...
