Το "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" αποτέλεσε το έβδομο full length album των Iron Maiden. Κυκλοφόρησε στις 11 Απριλίου του 1988 και κατά την προσωπική άποψη του γράφοντος αποτελεί τον κορυφαίο δίσκο των Βρετανών metallers (μαζί με το "Piece of Mind" που κυκλοφόρησε μία πενταετία πίσω).

Ο τίτλος και η κεντρική ιδέα του δίσκου προήλθε από το διήγημα του Αμερικανού συγγραφέα Orson Scott Card (γνωστός και ως Frederick Bliss, Brian Green, P.Q. Gump, Dinah Kirkham, Scott Richards, Byron Walley), "Seventh Son" (το πρώτο -από τα έξι συνολικά- βιβλίο της σειράς "The Tales of Alvin Maker") που είχε δημοσιευθεί έναν χρόνο πριν (1987).

Το (δεκάλεπτο) επικό ομότιτλο τραγούδι ήταν το εναρκτήριο της δεύτερης πλευράς του βινυλίου. Φέρει την "σφραγίδα" του Steve Harris και αποτελεί την κορυφαία (επίσης υποκειμενικό και αυτό) μουσική σύνθεση του εν λόγω (σπουδαίου) album...
