Το μακρινό 1986 ο (18χρονος τότε) Michael Kiske ενσωματώνεται στους Helloween και οι Γερμανοί metallers ετοιμάζονται για τον διάδοχο του "Walls of Jericho" και δεύτερο "ολοκληρωμένο" δίσκο τους. "Keeper of the Seven Keys" ο τίτλος και ετοιμαζόταν να φέρει τα πάνω κάτω στο Ευρωπαϊκό metal.

Επρόκειτο για διπλό album, με την δισκογραφική τους εταιρεία να μην τους επιτρέπει την κυκλοφορία διπλού δίσκου και να τους προτρέπει να το κυκλοφορήσουν σε δύο μέρη. Και κάπως έτσι εγένετο "Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I" (το 1987) και "Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II" (το 1988) και παράλληλα εγένετο... Ευρωπαϊκό power metal.

Στην συνείδησή μου παραμένει ένας ενιαίος δίσκος, τυπικά όμως πρόκειται για δύο albums (με όσα θετικά και αρνητικά προέκυψαν από αυτό το γεγονός, αλλά δεν είναι της παρούσης). Το πρώτο μέρος έκλεψε την παράσταση επειδή προηγήθηκε χρονικά (κατ εμέ είναι και καλύτερο) προκαλώντας πάταγο στο Ευρωπαϊκό metal.

Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι ο Kai Hansen μετά το "Walls of Jericho" σταμάτησε να τραγουδά, μετά το "Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I" σταμάτησε (ουσιαστικά) να συνθέτει και μετά το "Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II" σταμάτησε να... αποτελεί μέλος της μπάντας (δημιουργώντας τους Gamma Ray, αλλά αυτό είναι μία άλλη ιστορία).

Κορυφαία στιγμή του δίσκου δεν θα μπορούσε να είναι άλλη από το (καταπληκτικό) -δεκατετράλεπτης διάρκειας- ομότιτλο τραγούδι, με το οποίο ολοκληρώνεται το album. Αυτό δεν σημαίνει ότι υπολείπεται το (ουσιαστικά) εναρκτήριο μουσικό κομμάτι "Eagle Fly Free"...
