Candlemass - 'Epicus Doomicus Metallicus' (album stream)

Πόσους δίσκους γνωρίζετε που όχι μόνο δημιούργησαν μουσικό είδος (ή έστω υποείδος), αλλά το "βάφτισαν" κιόλας; Το έκαναν οι Candlemass με το ντεμπούτο τους. Αν οι Black Sabbath είναι οι δημιουργοί (και) του doom metal, οι Candlemass είναι οι νονοί του!

"Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" και εγένετο επικό doom metal!!! Τέτοια ταύτιση τίτλου, εξωφύλλου και μουσικού περιεχομένου είναι εντυπωσιακή. Το εναρκτήριο (και εκπληκτικό) "Solitude" είναι δηλωτικό των προθέσεων. Έξι συνθέσεις, 43 λεπτά. Αργόσυρτο, βαρύ (πολύ βαρύ, τόσο αισθητικά όσο και ηχητικά), πένθιμο και (καρα)επικό metal!

Μεγαλειώδες και το τελείωμα του δίσκου με μία από τις κορυφαίες συνθέσεις στην ιστορία του epic metal (και πιθανά το καλύτερο -κατ εμέ- τραγούδι τους μαζί με το "Where the Runes Still Speak" και το "At the Gallows End"), "A Sorcerer's Pledge"! Το album γνώρισε αρκετές επανακυκλοφορίες - επανεκδόσεις, με πλέον πρόσφατη την περσινή (Ιανουάριος 2023) της Peaceville Records σε βινύλιο...

Δελτίο τύπου: «Candlemass was formed by bassist and songwriter Leif Edling in Stockholm, Sweden in 1984, and they are well known for their epic doom metal, having a great influence over a generation of the genre’s subsequent greats - Candlemass themselves taking a large influence from Black Sabbath.

'Epicus Doomicus Metallicus' is a true classic. Heavy metal riffs blended with almost neo-classical touches, plus some theatrical elements bringing to mind bands like Mercyful Fate (thought to be another influence). All-in-all, this is considered one of the definitive Doom Metal releases.

'Epicus...' was recorded at Thunderload Studios in 1986 and was released later that same year. The vocals were handled by Johan Längqvist, before the iconic vocalist Messiah Marcolin became a solid fixture in the band until the early nineties. Candlemass instantly became a great inspiration to countless metal bands upon the album’s release in 1986; a time when thrash metal, not doom, was fast becoming the dominant style in both Europe and the US.»

ΥΓ. Τα επτά τελευταία τραγούδια (από 7 έως 13 δηλαδή) στον audio player προέρχονται από την συναυλία των Candlemass στην Αγγλία (Birmingham) το 1988 και αποτελούν το δεύτερο cd στην επανακυκλοφορία της Peaceville Records τον Οκτώβριο του 2007.
