Back to the future: Nevermore - 'Dreaming Neon Black'

Οι Nevermore έγραψαν την δική τους ιστορία στο heavy metal. Για άλλους θετική, για άλλους αρνητική, για άλλους αδιάφορη. Όλες τις απόψεις θα τις συναντήσετε. Αυτό καταδεικνύει ένα -αν μη τι άλλο- ιδιαίτερο και ξεχωριστό συγκρότημα. Δημιουργήθηκαν στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του ενενήντα από τις "στάχτες" των (θεών) Sanctuary.

Διαλύθηκαν πριν από δεκατρία έτη, μετά από σχεδόν δύο δεκαετίες καριέρας μεταφραζόμενη σε επτά "ολοκληρωμένους" δίσκους, δύο demos, ένα ep, ένα single κι ένα live album. Η δική μου σχέση με τους Nevermore πέρασε από πολλά στάδια.

Τους παρακολουθώ από τα πρώτα τους βήματα (όπου αρχικά απογοητεύτηκα γιατί περίμενα την φυσική συνέχεια των Sanctuary). Άλλοτε στενά κι άλλοτε εξ' αποστάσεως. Πάντως έβρισκα (και βρίσκω) κομματάρες σε κάθε δίσκο τους και λατρεύω τον δίσκο "Dreaming Neon Black" (τεράστιο "κόλλημα" όταν είχε πρωτοβγεί).

Κυκλοφόρησε στην αυγή του 1999 και ξεκινούσε ουσιαστικά με τον "κεραυνό" "Beyond Within" (το εισαγωγικό instrumental "Ophidian" διαρκειά λιγότερο από λεπτό) που έκαμψε τις (όποιες) αντιστάσεις μου. Η μπάντα σε πολύ μεγάλη φόρμα και ένας εξωπραγματικός Warrel Dane σε μοναδικές ερμηνείες. Ουρλιάζει, θρηνεί, οργίζεται. Ερμηνείες ζωής!

Σκοτεινό (θεοσκότεινο για την ακρίβεια), ογκώδες και (γ@μημέν@) heavy, πιο heavy δεν νομίζω ότι γίνεται! Ακούμε τον Warrel Dane (RIP) στα φωνητικά, τον Jeff Loomis στην κιθάρα, τον Jim Sheppard στο μπάσο, τον Tim Calvert (RIP) στην κιθάρα (κάποια στιγμή πρέπει να γράψω για τους Forbidden) και τον Van Williams στα τύμπανα. Συμμετέχει επίσης και η τραγουδίστρια Christine Rhoades (στον ομότιτλο ύμνο)!
