Ο "ζωντανά" ηχογραφημένος δίσκος "Beast from the East" σήμανε το φινάλε της πρώτης περιόδου των Dokken. (Η Αμερικάνικη μπάντα επανήλθε το 1993, αλλά αυτό είναι μία άλλη ιστορία.) Ο δίσκος ηχογραφήθηκε στην Ιαπωνία (εξού και ο τίτλος) τον Απρίλιο του 1988, κατά την διάρκεια της περιοδείας για την υποστήριξη - προώθηση του album "Back for the Attack".

Ο δίσκος γνώρισε αρκετές εκδόσεις και επανεκδόσεις, με πλέον πρόσφατη αυτήν της Rock Candy Records το καλοκαίρι του 2017 (την αποκαλούμενη collector's edition). Το "Breaking the Chains" αποτελεί ένα από τα πλέον γνωστά τους τραγούδια. Κυκλοφόρησε ως (επτάιντσο και δωδεκάιντσο) single το 1983, ενώ "βάφτισε" και τον δεύτερο δίσκο των Αμερικανών melodic metallers που "βγήκε" την ίδια χρονιά...
