Τον πρώτο ανοιξιάτικο μήνα συμπληρώθηκε μισός αιώνας από την κυκλοφορία του μουσικού δίσκου των Led Zeppelin "Houses of the Holy". Το πέμπτο full length album της θρυλικής μπάντας ηχογραφήθηκε από τον Δεκέμβριο του 1971 έως τον Αύγουστο του 1972 και κυκλοφόρησε στις 28 Μαρτίου 1973.

Το τελευταίο τραγούδι της πρώτης πλευράς του βινυλίου ήταν το "The Crunge", το οποίο κυκλοφόρησε και αυτόνομα, ως single. Για την ακρίβεια ήταν b-side στο "D'yer Mak'er" που "βγήκε" τον Σεπτέμβριο του ιδίου έτους. Η μπάντα "τζαμάρει", ο John Bonham αρχίζει, ο John Paul Jones τον συνοδεύει στο μπάσο, ο Jimmy Page προσθέτει ένα (funky) riff και ο Robert Plant αρχίζει να τραγουδιά.

Κάπως έτσι "γεννήθηκε" το τραγούδι, με τον Jimmy Page να λέει σχετικά στο περιοδικό Guitar World το 1993:

«I played a Strat on that one - I wanted to get that tight James Brown feel. You have to listen closely, but you can hear me depressing a whammy bar at the end of each phrase. Bonzo started the groove on “The Crunge”, then Jonesy started playing that descending bass line and I just came in on the rhythm. You can really hear the fun we were having on “Houses” and “Physical Graffiti”. And you can also hear the dedication and commitment.»
