Το μακρινό 1986 σχηματίσθηκαν (από τους κιθαρίστες Jeff Klukow, Bryan Steward) στο Κάνσας οι Vengeance. Την πρώτη διετία λειτούργησαν ως ορχηστρικό (instrumental) συγκρότημα. Το 1988 η μπάντα απέκτησε και τραγουδιστή (Troy Skinner) και στις αρχές του 1989 μετονομάσθηκαν σε Amethyst.

Την επόμενη χρονιά (1990) κυκλοφόρησε σε κασέτα το τεσσάρων τραγουδιών demo "The Trespasser". Το 1982 ηχογράφησαν και ένα δεύτερο demo, το οποίο δεν κυκλοφόρησε (τότε). Το καλοκαίρι του 2010 η δισκογραφική εταιρεία Retrospect Records συγκέντρωσε όλα τις ηχογραφήσεις του Αμερικάνικου σχήματος κυκλοφορώντας σε cd την συλλογή "The Maze of Destiny", για την οποία μας λέει σχετικά:
