Το μακρινό 1983 ο Thomas Börje Forsberg (γνωστότερος στους metal κύκλους ως Quorthon) δημιούργησε τους Bathory. Παρουσιάστηκαν στο κοινό μέσω της παρουσίας τους (με δύο τραγούδια) στην συλλογή "Scandinavian Metal Attack" που κυκλοφόρησε τον Ιανουάριο του 1984.

Μέσα στην χρονιά "βγήκε" και το ομώνυμο ντεμπούτο των Bathory. Δύο από τα τραγούδια του album, το εναρκτήριο "Hades" και το επιλογικό "War", τα συναντάμε και στο δεύτερο μέρος της συλλογής "Scandinavian Metal Attack" που κυκλοφόρησε λίγους μήνες αργότερα (Μάιος 1985).
