Seax - 'Return to the Steel' (official lyric video)

Seax (Σαξ) ονομαζόταν ένα είδος μαχαιριού ή κοντού σπαθιού μίας κόψης, που ήταν ευρέως διαδεδομένο στην κεντρική Ευρώπη από την εποχή του σιδήρου μέχρι τα μέσα του Μεσαίωνα μας πληροφορεί η wikipedia.

Στην αρχαία Αγγλική γλώσσα συναντάμε τις λέξεις seax, handseax sax, seaxe, scramaseax και scramsax που σημαίνει μαχαίρι ή κοφτερό εργαλείο. Στην Άνω Γερμανική γλώσσα συναντάμε τις λέξεις sax, sachs, skramasax και sahs που σημαίνει μαχαίρι.

Στις Σκανδιναβικές γλώσσες η λέξη sax σημαίνει επίσης ψαλίδι. Θεωρείται πιθανό οι Σάξονες να πήραν την ονομασία τους από το συγκεκριμένο όπλο, καθώς σύμφωνα με τον Πτολεμαίο οι Χαύκοι, ένας αρχαίος πολεμοχαρής λαός, είχε ως όπλο το σαξ.

Στην σύγχρονη αρχαιολογία χρησιμοποιούμε την λέξη σαξ (seax) εννοώντας ένα ως επί το πλείστον μακρύ μαχαίρι που έφεραν ως όπλο οι πολεμιστές από τον 5ο ως τον 11ο αιώνα στην γεωγραφική περιοχή που βρίσκεται μεταξύ Ιρλανδίας και Σκανδιναβίας στο βορρά και Βόρειας Ιταλίας στον νότο.

Πρωτοεμφανίστηκε στην Σκανδιναβία τον 4ο αιώνα π.Χ. Στην ηπειρωτική Ευρώπη διαδίδεται από τον καιρό της Ρωμαϊκής αυτοκρατορίας ξεκινώντας γεωγραφικά από τα εδάφη της Βαλτικής θάλασσας και τις εκβολές του ποταμού Έλβα. Από τον 9ο αιώνα και μετά αρχίζει σιγά - σιγά να χάνεται στην Ευρώπη, ενώ συνεχίζει να χρησιμοποιείται στα Βρετανικά Νησιά και στην Σκανδιναβία.

Seax ονομάζεται και ένα Αμερικάνικο speed metal συγκρότημα. Δημιουργήθηκαν πριν από 13 έτη, μας συστήνονται ως «Speed Metal Maniacs» και έχουν κυκλοφορήσει τέσσερις "ολοκληρωμένους" δίσκους (συν μία συλλογή). Ο πέμπτος είναι προ των πυλών. Φέρει τον τίτλο "Speed Inferno" και αναμένεται (σε cd) στα τελειώματα του πρώτου φθινοπωρινού μήνα (τον Οκτώβριο σε βινύλιο)...

"The release date of the of the new album "Speed Inferno" by the US Thrash Metal Band SEAX on CD is September 30th, 2022. The album will be released via IRON SHIELD RECORDS. Seax was formed in Massachusetts in 2009 by their guitarist, Hel.

The five-piece was very fast complete and hhey started playing live shortly after and recorded their first album in August, 2011. It was titled "High on Metal" and self-released by the band on July, 2012. Re-released by EBM records in 2012.

Their 2nd album "To The Grave" was recorded between 2013-2014 and released on December, 2014 as Vinyl only. The now plays much faster and direct, pure Speed Metal in the best 80ies style. "Speed Metal Mania", their 3rd album, was created between 2015-2016 and released on September, 2016 by the band.

In 2018 the band is in europe on tour, also at the high recommend Headbangers Open air (end July)! The album "Fallout Rituals" came in 2019 only out in U.S.. Sadly short time later starts the worldwide covid cancelling.

But, now it's 2022 and the band restart with an awesome and pure Speed Metal attack! 9 catchy and fast hymns, with a fresh and aggressive sounds - perfect to bring it on the stage! CD is comin' out 30. Sept., vinyl will be out in Oct. via Diabolic Might Rec.!»
