Rage in My Eyes - 'Surrounded By Black Mirrors' (live)

Look around and see these
Black bars that surround you
Just a reflection of our death from within
We’ve been too afraid to look inside,
Still we can’t face who we really are
Just analyze their rotten souls
Try to feel what moves your world
Through the rottenness they shed
Programmed to die
No place to hide
The flesh is killing the soul
Is there some light
Behind those eyes?
No one’s guilty of this crime
Should I listen to these inner voices
Or should I listen
To the noises of an ordinary world?
Frozen dreams are left behind
Empty words and petrified hearts
Just analyze their rotten souls
Try to feel what moves your world
Through the mirror of life
Programmed to die
No place to hide
The flesh is killing the soul
Is there some light
Behind those eyes?
We’ve been too tough with ourselves
What if reality transcends
Our entire comprehension?
What if my senses betrayed me?
Programmed to die… Behind those eyes
We must know who we are

Ο δίσκος των Rage In My Eyes 'And Then Came The Theate'
Bio: «Rage in My Eyes is a Brazilian Heavy Metal band that came to life in 2002 under the name Scelerata. Through these 19 years, the band built a huge history in the Brazilian and international Metal scene, with four full-length worldwide released albums and one EP, including the internationally acclaimed album “The Sniper”, which was partially recorded in Germany at the Blind Guardian studio, produced by Charlie Bauerfeind (Blind Guardian, Helloween, Angra) and featured guest appearances by Paul Di’anno (former Iron Maiden) and Andi Deris (Helloween).

Scelerata was Paul Di’anno’s official Brazilian backing band from 2009 to 2014, playing over 50 shows with this Heavy Metal icon and opening every single show playing their original songs. Still under the name Scelerata, the boys opened for bands such as Deep Purple, Gamma Ray, Angra, Shaman, Viper, Kamelot, Krisiun and Edguy and played on stage with Roy Z (Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford) and Kiko Loureiro (Megadeth, former Angra).

With this huge background, the musicians are now aiming for the future. Going through a name change in 2018, Rage in My Eyes now presents the world with a unique kind of music, especially by incorporating the accordion to Metal music.

Being from the south of Brazil, the band delivers a kind of Metal never heard before, mixing Heavy and Prog Metal with elements of Milonga - a music genre from the South of Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina, lands of the Gauchos. Guitarist Magnus Wichmann, grandson of legendary gaucho musician Teixeirinha, and the band’s main songwriter, highlights the Milonga arrangements and the accordion presented in the band’s music:

It’s been a while since we’ve added these elements and we realized that they combined very well with our style and with the songwriting. We wanted to bring something special and unique, and it all happened in a very authentic and natural way. The best part of it is that the fans approved of these experiments.

Rage in My Eyes’ debut album, “Ice Cell”, released in August 2019, opened many doors for the band and had amazing reviews worldwide. It was recorded in Los Angeles (USA) and in their native Porto Alegre (Brazil), produced by Magnus Wichmann at Magneto Studio (Brazil) and Daufembach Studio (USA).

The mix and master were held in Los Angeles by renowned Brazilian producer Adair Daufembach (Dirk Verbeuren, Aquiles Priester, Kiko Loureiro, Tony MacAlpine). Drummer Francis Cassol’s recent move to Los Angeles has contributed to the band’s closer relationship with producer Adair Daufembach.

Recording in the US with Adair was an amazing experience. We achieved impressive results in terms of drum sound”. To promote the album, two official music videos were released, the first one for “Death Sleepers”, a track that makes explicit the Milonga and Gaucho influences.

But the main accomplishment was the historic evening opening for Iron Maiden during the 2019 Legacy of The Beast Tour in the band’s hometown, Porto Alegre, for 40,000 metalheads in a soccer stadium, which resulted in the music video for the track “Hole In The Shell”.

In 2020 the group released an original single and lyric video for “I Don’t Want To Say Goodbye”, a tribute to beloved Brazilian vocalist Andre Matos, who unfortunately passed in 2019. The lyric video shows hundreds of pictures of Matos’ fans posing beside him.

Still in 2020, being unable to perform live, the band put out two live “quarantine” videos. One for the opening track of “Ice Cell”, “Winter Dream” and one for the song “A Perigo”, an Engenheiros do Hawaii cover. After 2 years of the release of “Ice Cell” and the show with Iron Maiden, Rage in My Eyes releases now the EP “Spiral”, which consists of five tracks.

“Spiral” keeps the band’s songwriting essence, but seeks to take its connection with Milonga one step further. Released on October 15, 2021, “Spiral” shows the band in its own experience of writing and recording in the midst of a pandemic, which brought new elements to the songs.

The first song off the EP that the fans were able to listen to in the form of a music video was the thunderous “And Then Came the Storm”, which reveals itself as a love and farewell letter.

The cover artwork for “Spiral” was designed by Carlos Fides (Evergrey, Edu Falaschi, Shaman), and according to vocalist Jonathas Pozo, “Spirals refer to time and cycles, and symbolically are used by different cultures and beliefs to represent death and life, renewal, evolution and involution or simply the progression of existence itself.

Although all the band members have suffered losses during the pandemic, the EP is not conceptual, as Pozo explains:

”Spiral” is not an EP about the pandemic, but it is completely involved by its consequences in the creation and production stages of the album, expressing and thus artistically imprinting our losses and our grief during this period; from the estrangement with the new normal to the search for sanity and adaptation in this cycle that we are going through. “Spiral” is above all a celebration of the life that goes on, in memory and in action, but which continues to be understood as cyclical”.»
