Το μακρινό 1968 σχηματίσθηκαν στο Λονδίνο οι Free. Η Βρετανική μπάντα έμεινε ενεργή μέχρι το 1973, με τον Paul Rodgers να αναλαμβάνει τα φωνητικά στους Bad Company. Οι Free κυκλοφόρησαν έξι full length albums, ένα ep, ένα live albums συν κάποια singles (και βέβαια οτιδήποτε κυκλοφόρησε μετά την διάλυση του συγκροτήματος).

Το τραγούδι "All Right Now” είναι πιθανότατα (μαζί με το "Wishing Well") το πλέον αναγνωρίσιμο μουσικό κομμάτι των Free. Κυκλοφόρησε ως single τον Μάιο του 1970 (με το "Mouthful of Grass" στην δεύτερη πλευρά του βινυλίου) και προετοίμασε το έδαφος για τον (υπέροχο) δίσκο "Fire and Water" που "βγήκε" στα τέλη Ιουνίου του ίδιου έτους.
