Home Style Surgery - "Fade into Grey" (audio)
Δελτίο τύπου: «In a world filled with copy-and-paste thrash metal, Home Style Surgery deliver a fresh yet old school take on a genre that rarely offers any surprises these days. Riffs and speed are the name of the game in this technical journey from one twisted mind to another.
On their second studio album, these young Finnish guys offer eight tracks of straight to the point technical thrash with no filler moments. One refined riff and one intricate solo after another, over the complex drum fills backdrop, they show how stellar their musicianship is.
That wouldn't mean much though if the songwriting was lacking, but they are just as talented as composers, putting hooks in each song. Their new singer also keeps things interesting with vocals spanning mid-range gritty to clean higher pitched registers, occasional pure heavy metal screams and even some growling too when drums burst into blast beats. Fans of TOXIK, STONE, FORBIDDEN, CORONER, VEKTOR, VEXOVOID, VOIVOD, ANNIHILATOR, DESPAIR, ASPID (Rus.), GRINDER and TARGET, take note!»
Bio: «Home Style Surgery started out in 2008 when five kids from a little town in Lapland decided to pick up instruments and play like their idols Venom and Kreator, a scenario likely shared by many metalhead kids when growing up in the middle of nowhere.
The direction was changed a little when they learned to play their instruments and heard Stone and other Finnish speed/thrash metal bands from the late '80s. A few years later, Home Style Surgery were known in the local area for their insane, almost chaotic live performances and being the only active speed metal band in a 300 kilometer radius.
After several demos, two EPs and a split, as well as countless gigs (including a mini tour with the then hot and new LOST SOCIETY and appearances at Finnish metal festivals), they finally hit TicoTico studios in 2016 to record their first full-length album.
At this point, the band's style had shifted more into technical thrash territory and was highly influenced by bands such as Coroner, Dark Angel and Aspid while the vocals took inspiration from German thrash bands like Grinder or Depressive Age.
This added a darker tone to the high speed riff filled sound of the album, which surely is fitting considering the lyrics that mainly focus on mental health issues. "Trauma Gallery" was released by Punishment 18 Records in 2018 and was received very well among the critics.
After 10 years in Home Style Surgery, Joel, the singer and founding member of the band, decided to leave. At first it was hard to even think of replacing him, but the band had already written an album worth of their best material to date, so they got no choice.
Thankfully BRAINTHRASH vocalist Kami who was impressed by "Trauma Gallery" contacted the band and after one rehearsal and some vocal demos, the new singer was hired. The new album titled "Brain Drill Poetry" was recorded in 2020 and contains 8 songs of fast, complex and catchy thrash that should satisfy anyone who can't get enough of classic technical thrash bands like Toxik, Coroner, Forbidden or the classic VoiVod. Upon hearing three songs, Metal on Metal Records contacted the band and after hearing the whole thing, offered them a deal. The album was released on November 19th 2021.»
