Dark Arena - "Alien World" (lyric video)

Πριν από ένδεκα χρόνια είχα παρουσιάσει το (αυτοχρηματοδοούμενο) ντεμπούτο των Dark Arena "Alien Factor" στο ιστολόγιο που διατηρούσα. Έγραφα τότε:

«Το Alien Factor αποτελεί την φυσική εξέλιξη του ήχου που διαμόρφωσαν οι Fates Warning (του No Exit), οι Watchtower, οι Helstar, ίσως οι Agent Steel και συνέχισαν οι Destiny's End, οι Spirit Web, ίσως οι Mystic Force, οι Antithesis (διόλου τυχαίο, δύο μέλη τους υπογράφουν εδώ), οι Ion Vein.

Δηλαδή γρήγορο κατά βάση, "ψυχρό", υπερτεχνικό, με συνεχείς αλλαγές ρυθμών (συχνά παραλλαγές του ίδιου ρυθμού), "περίεργες" αρμονίες κι έναν ιδιότυπο χειρισμό της μελωδίας που δεν είναι... για τα αυτιά του καθενός. Κι αυτό εξηγεί την εμπορική αποτυχία του ιδιώματος ακόμη και στους στενούς κύκλους του heavy metal κοινού.

Υπερβολικά power για τους progsters υπερβολικά δυσνόητο και περίπλοκο για τους powerάδες. Ας είναι, η τέχνη δεν απευθύνεται στους πολλούς. Στην περίπτωσή μας, οι Dark Arena τα διαθέτουν όλα τα παραπάνω στον υπερθετικό βαθμό. Κι αυτό καθιστά το Alien Factor ανταγωνιστικό στο υψηλό επίπεδο. Fear of the Night, Alien Factor, Vicious Circles, Subterranean Man το επιβεβαιώνουν.

Ιδιαίτερη μνεία ακόμη στο The Sight (που θυμίζει -σε σημεία- έντονα το A Mended Rhyme των θεών Tad Morose), στο ακουστικό Dark Sorrow και στο Somewhere στ' οποίο τα όργια του μπασίστα ακολουθεί ένα υπέροχο σόλο πλήκτρων που παραπέμπει σε Deep Purple απογειώνοντας όχι μόνο το τραγούδι αλλά και το τελικό αποτέλεσμα.

Εκτελεστικά οι Dark Arena είναι μία καλοκουρδισμένη πολεμική μηχανή που ισοπεδώνει όσους βρεθούν στο διάβα της μ' αιχμή του δόρατος το αηδόνι Juan Ricardo και οπισθοφυλακή τον εκπληκτικό ντράμερ Chris Stolle, ο οποίος πιθανά βαριέται να παίζει στο ίδιο τέμπο για περισσότερο από 6-7 δευτερόλεπτα μ' αποτέλεσμα ένα ρεσιτάλ τυμπάνων.

Εν κατακλείδι το Alien Factor δικαίως φωνάζει πως ανήκει στο σύγχρονο (Dark) Power Metal. Στο heavy metal του σήμερα. Περιχαρακωμένο σε απόλυτα κλασικές συντεταγμένες μοντέρνο ως προς τη δια τύπωση. Φωνάζει, σε ώτα μη ακουόντων όμως...»

Ο δίσκος "Alien Factor" κυκλοφόρησε το 2006 κι αυτό που τον επαναφέρει στην επικαιρότητα είναι η επανακυκλοφορία του (τον περασμένο Μάιο) από την Pure Steel Records (χωρίς επιπλέον τραγούδια). Όσοι δεν το πήρατε χαμπάρι τότε...
