Obsidian Kingdom - "Meat Star" (video)
Obsidian: οψιανός ή οψιδιανός. Σύμφωνα με την wikipedia πρόκειται για πέτρωμα το οποίο προέρχεται από ηφαιστειογενείς περιοχές νεαρής γεωλογικά ηλικίας. Είναι πέτρωμα όξινο, σκουρόχρωμο με υαλώδη υφή (θεωρείται φυσικό γυαλί) και χρησιμοποιήθηκε εξαιτίας της σύστασης και ανθεκτικότητάς του, ήδη από τα τέλη της Ανώτερης Παλαιολιθικής περιόδου για την κατασκευή λεπίδων με κοφτερές ακμές, που χρησίμευαν ως μαχαίρια και ξυράφια.
Στην διεθνή βιβλιογραφία έχει επικρατήσει ο όρος obsidian, στην Ελλάδα χρησιμοποιούνται και οι δυο όροι, ο όρος "οψιδιανός" συχνότερα από όσους έχουν σχέση με γεωλογικές επιστήμες και ο όρος "οψιανός" συχνότερα από τους αρχαιολόγους.
Το όνομα του οψιανού αναφέρεται για πρώτη φορά στην εγκυκλοπαίδεια Naturalis historiae που γράφτηκε το 77 μ.Χ. από τον Πλίνιο τον πρεσβύτερο. Εκεί αναφέρεται ότι τον ανακάλυψε κάποιος με το όνομα Obsius στην Αιθιοπία. Εκεί αναφέρονται επίσης ορισμένες χαρακτηριστικές λεπτομέρειες για τον οψιανό, όπως ότι επρόκειτο για μαύρο γυαλί μεγάλης πυκνότητας, που αντανακλά τη λάμψη και ότι μπορούσε να χρησιμεύσει ως σκίαστρο.
Ο Πλίνιος γράφει ότι από αυτό κατασκεύαζαν σφραγιδολίθους κι ότι ο αυτοκράτορας Αύγουστος είχε αφιερώσει στον ναό τής θεάς Κονκόρντια (Concordia) (στην Ρώμη) ομοιώματα ελεφάντων από οψιανό. Ως τοποθεσίες που βρίσκεται καταγράφει ότι ο Ξενοκράτης ανέφερε την Ινδία και το Σάμνιο της νότιας Ιταλίας (Samnium) και προς τη μεριά του ωκεανού την Ισπανία.
Η έννοια της λέξης (Obsidian) με απασχόλησε λόγω του ομότιτλου δίσκου των Paradise Lost. Την ξαναβρήκα "μπροστά" μου λόγω μίας ιδιαίτερης μπάντας από την πρωτεύουσα της Καταλωνίας που την χρησιμοποιεί στο όνομά της.
Οι Obsidian Kingdom μας έρχονται από την Βαρκελώνη. Δημιουργήθηκαν πριν από δεκαπέντε χρόνια και τους αρέσει να πειραματίζονται (μουσικά). Progressive μπάντα με την ευρύτερη έννοια του όρου, η οποία έχει κυκλοφορήσει τρεις "ολοκληρωμένους" δίσκους (συν δύο EPs) με τον τέταρτο να είναι προ των πυλών. Φέρει τον τίτλο "Meat Machine" κι αναμένεται στα τελειώματα του πρώτου φθινοπωρινού μήνα...

Meat Star is a song about accepting hardship and pain as a means of discovering your true purpose, and the transformation and sacrifices you must undergo once you've committed yourself to that very goal. It is the soundtrack to the crucifixion, to the dismemberment of Dionysus and to the drowning of Osiris. It is an ode to the regenerative power of endings, once you’ve realized that surrendering is the only way to win.»

Ωραίος με την ανάλυση του οψιδιανού. Και όντως είναι ξεχωριστό άκουσμα.
