Το καλοκαίρι του 1987 κυκλοφόρησε η συλλογή των Mercyful Fate "The Beginning", η οποία (όπως μαρτυρά και ο τίτλος της) εστιάζει στις πρώιμες ημέρες τς Σκανδιναβικής μπάντας. Περιλαμβάνει τα τέσσερα τραγούδια του ομώνυμου ep, τρία τραγούδια που έπαιξαν στην ραδιοφωνική εκπομπή "Friday Rock Show" συν το κομμάτι "Black Masses" (από το single "Black Funeral"). Ο δίσκος έχει γνωρίσει πολλές επανεκδόσεις - επανακυκλοφορίες. Μία ακόμη μας περιμένει τον επόμενο μήνα σε βινύλιο (από την Metal Blade)...
