«Το θωρηκτό μάχης Μπίσμαρκ ήταν Γερμανικό σκάφος επιφανείας, ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα της εποχής του, και ανήκε στην δύναμη του Ναυτικού της Ναζιστικής Γερμανίας. Ήταν το πρώτο της ομώνυμης κλάσης θωρηκτών με δεύτερο της ίδιας κλάσης το θωρηκτό Τίρπιτς.
Το Μπίσμαρκ ονομάστηκε προς τιμήν του Καγκελάριου Ότο φον Μπίσμαρκ, πρωτοστράτορα της Γερμανικής ενοποίησης του 1871. Το σκάφος παραγγέλθηκε το 1935 στα ναυπηγεία Blohm & Voss, στο Αμβούργο, από την κυβέρνηση της Ναζιστικής Γερμανίας κατά παράβαση των όρων της συνθήκης των Βερσαλλιών του 1919», μας πληροφορεί η wikipedia.
