Η Μάχη του Μαραθώνα διεξήχθη το 490 (μ.α.χ.χ.) ανάμεσα στους Αθηναίους και Πλαταιείς από τη μια πλευρά και τους Πέρσες από την άλλη στην πεδιάδα του Μαραθώνα της Αττικής. Έληξε με νίκη των Ελλήνων και σήμανε το τέλος της πρώτης ουσιαστικής απόπειρας της Περσικής αυτοκρατορίας, επί βασιλείας Δαρείου Α' να υποτάξει τις πόλεις της ηπειρωτικής Ελλάδας.
